Abstract
An openwork frame is constructed from tubular members (30) with welded on end fittings (A). The end fitting (A) has a tapered section (33) running into a neck (32) of reduced diameter with an end collar (31) in teh form of a frustrum of a cone. A number of such tubes (30) are fixed to a common joint formed from two hemispheres bolted together. Each hemisphere has four recesses in its joint face which match the contour of the end fitting (A), so that when the two hemispherees are bolted together the end fittings (A) are clamped between the mating surfaces. Each hemisphere has tapped holes to receive the screwed ends of tubes so that additional tubes can be attached to the common joint.
