Abstract

The pump has an output proportional to the square of its rotational speed and has a number of cylinders in the form of flexible bellows (1). These bellows (1) are arranged radially on a rotor (2) mounted on a hollow shaft (3). The bellows (1) are compressed by spring loaded arms (6) but as the speed of rotation increases, the bellows expand until the centrifugal force balances the force of the spring (7). As the rotor rotates the bellows are compressed by the rollers (5) running over the undulating peripheral track (8) but the expansion is limited by this balance of spring and centrifugal force. In this way the output is made proportional to the square of the speed.
