Abstract

The mould consists of a chassis on which two long walls are fixed so the cast slab has a fixed thickness; but located between the two long walls are two narrow, sliding walls, which are moved to alter the width of the cast slab. The chassis is mounted on an ascillating support, and contains an upper and a lower jack for moving each wall. Mechanical jacks are pref. used and coupled together for actuation by a pair of redn. gearboxes. The gearboxes can pref. by automatically connected to a single drive shaft fitted to a motor mounted on the oscillating support; and the motor is pref. controlled by a synchro. System achieves rapid assembly of the mould complete with the adjusting jacks into the ascillating support.
