Abstract

A device for attenuating the effects of wind in an installation in which a fluid is contacted with atmos air, e.g. a water-cooling tower, comprises a peripheral gallery placed in front of the air inlet. The gallery inlet is bounded by an assemblage of fixed vertical panels extending between the ground and the roof of the gallery, parallel to one another and spaced equally from one another. The panels are oriented perpendicular to the air inlet opening. The device is simple and robust and although suitable for "dry coolers" is partic. efficaceous, in the case of "wet coolers", especially operating counter-currently. It avoids inconveniences of existing devices constituted of mobile opening and closing elements which are difficult to install and maintain and are not well adapted to wet coolers, in which the distribution of the air over the whole section of the tower is an important problem.
