Abstract
Heat sensitive probe comprises a fin gauge metallic resistance wire in the form of a helical coil bonded to the internal face of a flexible thermoplastic sleeve by local fusion of the sleeve surface. Esp. claimed for sensors involving coils of W, Ni or Pt wire in a sleeve of polyvinylidene chloride, polyolefin, polystyrene, polyamide, polytrifluoroethylene or, pref. PTFE. The ends of the wire elements are located by terminal blobs of a material suitable for making soldered connections. Typically the wire is a few tens of microns in dia. and the thermoplastic sheath walls are 0.2-0.4mm. thick. The sleeve surfaces are fused by passing a suitable heating current through the coaxial wire coil, e.g. 320mA for 2 s. Opt. the terminals are enclosed in a heat shrunk sleeve of an insulating material.
