Abstract

Shock absorber of elastomeric material, esp. for installation under the gravel ballast bed of railway tracks, is claimed. The elastomeric material is a compsn. of compact particles, e.g. rubber or polyurethane, mixed with porous particles, e.g. of a flexible plastics foam such as a polyurethane foam having apparent density of 20-35 kg/m3, held together by a binder. The shock absorber is pref. in form of a plate or a web. Wt. ratio of compact:porous particles in the mixt. is pref. 50-98. esp. 75%:20-2%. Particle sizes of both components ranges from 1-5 mm. Binder portion is pref. 5-25 wt.% of the mixt. The mixt. may be enclosed in a flexible plastics or rubber envelope.
