Abstract
The induction motor has a magnetic circuit consisting of three parts, two end pieces and a central piece. The end pieces (1a, 1b) each have two poles and the central piece (2) is positioned so that airgaps are formed between itself (2) and the end pieces. Passing centrally through the magnetic circuit is a shaft on which are mounted the disc rotors. The disc rotors (10a, 10b) rotate between the airgaps formed between the end pieces and the central piece (2) of the magnetic circuit. On each of the end pieces is an electrical winding (7). The discs are made from a material impervious to magnetic flux. Trapezoidal slots (14) are cut in the discs. The slots in each disc are 90 deg. out of phase with those in the other. The pole faces (5) on the magnetic circuit have also a trapezoidal shape similar to the shape cut into the discs.
