Abstract

In the electrical switch, the armature electrode is displaced rapidly by the fast change in current through the switch. The switch is based on a magnetic circuit surrounding the current carrying conductor held within a small-air-gap in the circuit. A conductor strip (22) integral with the armature conductor (18) is subject to induced currents due to the break action, the field generated enhancing the separation rate of the electrodes. A ferromagnetic plate (26) is fixed to the conductor strip and positioned close to the air-gap on the opposite side to the armature.
