Abstract

ethyl alpha, alpha-diphenyl acetamide of formula (I) is prepd. by the condensation of diphenyl acetic acid (II) with pyrrolidino ethylamine (III). Usually 10-30% excess of (IIe is used, and the reaction is effected at 120-200 (150) degrees C. Water evolved during the reaction is preferably removed as it forms, giving a measure of the progress of the reaction which is usually complete within 2-10 hours. (I) is a known agent for the treatment of respiratory disorders. The process is easier to carry out than the known method of making (I).
