Abstract
The molten metal flows down a tube into the mould; and the bottom end of the tube is below the surface of the melt in the mould. Located in the mould, and totally immersed in the molten metal below the tube is a dish. A space exists between the bottom end of the tube and the upper surface of the base of the dish; whereas the rim of the dish is higher tahn the bottom nd of the casting tube, thus forming an annular gap with cross-section larger than that of the tube but smaller than that of the gap between the periphery of the dish and the mould wall. The dish pref. has a flat, convex, or concave base, and a cylindrical, prismatic, or conical wall, esp. a wall tapering downwards. The dish acts as a baffle directing the flow of molten metal upwards so the inclusion easily float into the casting powder on the surface of the melt in the mould while the metal flows quietly downwards in the mould.
