Abstract

Active ingredient for cosmetics consists of natural elastin soluble in weakly acidified water and/or elastic hydrolysate water-solubilised by enzymatic treatment and opt. contg. small quantities of water-soluble collagen. The elastin prods. can be used for (i) hair-care, e.g. as shampoos, cures, rinses and conditioners, and (ii) skin-care, esp. for aged and damaged skin. The elastin prod. is instantly absorbed by skin or hair; softens and elasticises the skin; and reduces dandruff and split hair-end formation. Its weakly acid nature prevents strong swelling of hair and gloss is retained. Degreasing is also prevented. Compsns. are easily rinsed out and leave no soap residues, even when used with sea water. The elastin prods. are easily degraded biologically, resist high temps. and do not decompose at pH 3.5-12.
