Abstract

A hopper feed for an irregular bulk prod., such as wood chips, offers a regular delivery involving only slight use of energy and without deformation of the hopper. An endless belt comprises a conveyor with scrapers with an apron provided between the two layers of the belt. The apron comprises the fixed base of the hopper. The free height between the apron and the upper transverse edge of the removal opening is equal to twice the height of the scrapers and is sufficient for the transverse edge to clear the layer of the prod. This arrangement provides a uniform distribution, by shearing the prod., over all the base of the hopper without protruding beyond the level of the upper transverse edge of the removal opening. Each scraper moves a share of the prod. between it and the preceding scraper, and the height of the layer is determined by the degree of entanglement of the particles of the prod. at the upper level of the scrapers. The cutting of the lower layer from the remainder of the prod. is effected inside the hopper over all the length of the conveyor, beginning at the back and extending to the removal opening.
