Abstract

There are monolithic, transversely set upper and lower chords (1, 2) on the timber girder or beam, and intervening struts (4, 5) to form a double-T girder. Individual struts run at an angle to each other, with the end faces of a pair of struts converging at a nodal point firmly joined to an inside chord face. In the area of the chords' strut joint surface, the struts' ends and chord are interlocked with evenly distributed and similarly profiled wedge-shaped dovetail configurations (9) and glued together. The chords' dovetails and grooves (10) may extend over their whole length. The chords are subjected to reduced weakening for strut fixture, and therefore can be narrower and lighter.
