Abstract

Sodium percarbonate salt mixts. are produced by adding 60-80% H2O2 contg ethylenediamine tetracetic acid (EDTA) in quantity 0.6-1.8% based on the 100% H2O2, to sodium carbonate monhydrate or hydrated sodium carbonate contg 75-90% Na2CO3 with the addn of >=1 of Na or K sulphate or pyrophospate; Na metasilicate, disilicate, citrate or gluco heptonate. Na perborate, anhydrous Na2CO3, K carbonate or mixed Na/K carbonate. The percarbonate is used in washing powder to replace perborate which is becoming scarce, gives pollution problems and does not dissolve readily. However, the sodium percarbonate is not as stable to storage in the washing powder as the percarbonate. Previous attempts to overcome this have been too costly. The above process improves the stability of the percarbonate.
