Abstract

The safety razor is for use in the wet shaving of facial hair, and has an elongated transverse platform (7) on the end of a handle (1). The platform (7) supports a blade (3) and a hood (2) which can pivot under the application of pressure. The effect of the hood pivoting is to increase the exposure or relative projection of the cutting edges (23). The user can thus vary the exposure by varying the pressure applied through the hood to the area being shaved. The blade assembly includes one or more cutting edges (23) and a leading guard edge (22), with all three edges parallel to one another. The exposure of the cutting edges (23) relates to a plane containing the edges of the guard (22) and the pivotable hood (2). Springs are used to control the movement of the hood (2), constrain it into a position corresponding to min. exposure of the cutting edges (23), and resist its pivoting movement.
