Abstract

Method of making articles such as cups, saucers, plates, vases in porcelain and similar materials by isotactic pressing and firing, consists of filling a mould with dry porcelain powder (mixt.), the mould being in two halves, are defining the interior and the other the exterior surfaces. The interior mould piece is indeformable and the outer is elastically deformable and may be an elastomer. Specifically isostatic fluid pressure is used to compress the powder through the membrane, against the inflexible mould piece so that the pressure of moulding is uniform throughout the article. The method has more uniform density and porosity, more uniform reproducibility, can be made in rapid sequence, giving improved sintability for line prodn. and improved properties.
