Abstract
The appts. consists of a metal core inserted in a pipe carrying a fluid, esp. water contg. mineral salts. The core includes >=1 piece of metal forming a symmetrical shape with four corners at 90 degrees to the flow of water; and the core has holes or recesses disturbing the flow of water, and forming a large metal surface for chemical exchange with the ions in the water. Numerous shapes of core may be used, esp. two interlocking U-shaped pieces of metal; or a row of perforated discs joined by rods. Several different metals are pref. used to make a core which polarises the ions in the water, the core also creating turbulence so any ppte. obtd. does not agglomerate but is carried along by the water and is not deposited in the system of pipes.
