Abstract

The protective covering for a professional cyclist's shoe has a wedge (20) protruding from underneath the sole (12) and fixed in order to position the foot firmly on the pedal. The protective covering comprises a strip of flexible material incorporating a plastic pad attached to the shoe to hold it in two positions - one for pedalling and the other for free-wheeling. The surface of the pad which is visible for the free-wheeling position has a non-skid tread on it. The surface of the pad hidden during free-wheeling is shaped to fit onto the pedal wedge (20). The flexible strip holding the pad is a belt or bracelet.
