Abstract

The yarns have regular or random thickened portions of varying length. A fibrous ribbon or sliver of constant wt. is fed to the spinning device, and the number of fibres in the rotor is altered by varying the speed of withdrawal of the spun yarn by provision of an overfeed arrangement comprising the accumulation by yarn in a storage device. A pressure roller is supported on the withdrawal roller, for the yarn leaving the rotor, and is regularly or randomly lifted from it to allow the accumulated material to be removed at constant speed, with creaction of thickened portions. The prodn. of effect yarns on open end spinning machines is usually effected by the regular feeding of a sliver of varying wt., or by the irregular feeding of a sliver of constant wt. Both methods require special prepn., either of the sliver or the equipment. The present method produces slub yarns on open end spinning machines without such inconvenience using a simple process.
