Abstract

Prepn. of a diene hydrocarbon comprises oxidising dehydrogenation of an alkone or alkene at 400-700 degrees C in the presence of an inert diluent and an oxidising agent in a fluidised bed of an oxide catalyst. The reactor contains >=2 sections which are divided vertically and communicate in the upper and lower parts of the fluidised catalyst bed. The bed circulates in a predetermined direction from section to section. It is reduced during the reaction while its movement is co-current with the hydrocarbon feed. Reaction products are desorbed upon counter-current movement of the bed with inert diluent, and the bed is oxidised to regeneration by co-current movement with oxidant. Used for prepn. of butadiene isoprene, etc. The process is simple and avoids large catalyst losses. It is cheap and can be performed industrially.
