Abstract

The head is for a dental instrument angle piece with hollow cylindrical drill spindle to take drill bits. These are secured in the axial direction by radial clamps engaging in an annular groove in the bit shank via openings in the spindle. The clamp bodies(16) have concave curved surfaces(28) engaging with the edges of the annular groove(19) in the shank(9) for part of its periphery. They are either spring-loaded or secured in the closed position by their own resilience. They can be so arranged that they can only be lifted radially by the surface of the shank. The bodies can be rollers with relieved surfaces to a radius equal to or greater than that of the shank.
