Abstract

The fibre optic multicores are fitted with their sheath by simultaneous extrusion of the plastic material around each of the cores. The envelopes are welded to each other by being placed in mutual contact before being cooled. Formed in the cable are reinforcing wires(21) together with the fibre optics enclosed in loose fitting envelopes. Contact between the envelopes is ensured by rotating them about the axis of displacement of the cable. This rotation and displacement is done at a speed sufficiently high to ensure that contact takes place before the envelopes are sufficiently cooled.
