Abstract

Double glazed window units are made by clamping two sheets of transparent thermoplastic sheet face-to-face in a frame of e.g. metal or plastic (PBC) channel, then heating the sheets sufficient for dilation of the interfacial clearance by pressure injection of e.g. 2 kg/cm2 between the sheet. The form of the inflation is pref. controlled by enclosure between flat non-adhesive plates or mould faces, pref. flush with the window frame channel faces. The edges of the sheets may be gripped by elastomeric linings inside the frame channels. Suitable for mfr. of windows, skylights, etc., esp. from polymethylmethacrylate sheets heated to 150-160 degrees C for 10 mins.
