Abstract
The tube or hose of the optical fibre cable is surrounded by a moisture-proof barrier (3) formed from a strip (4) of metal or metal alloy. It has a layer (5, 6) of rubber or plastics on at least one of its larger faces. The moisture barrier is, in turn, surrounded by an outer protective sheath (7) of rubber or plastics, in which elongated reinforcing elements (8) are embedded at intervals in a circle and extend in the longitudinal direction of the sheath. Some or all of the reinforcing elements have corrugations which serve to improve the mechanical binding of the reinforcing elements inside the sheath and the flexibility of the cable.
