Abstract

The walls of furnaces which operate at temps. in the range of 800-1500 degrees C are insulated with modules of fibrous material such as aluminium silicate. The fibres are formed into layers which are folded into two with rods lying along the fold line. Four such folded layers are placed together to form a module and bound with steel wire or asbestos fibre. Hooks which are pushed through holes in the layers are attached to the rods in order to support the module from the furnace roof or wall. The modules are arranged so that the open ends of the folds face inwards to the furnace.
