Abstract

The stack of corrugated cardboard sheets (12) is carried on a roller conveyor (14) to a loading station having a roller conveyor (18) in line with it. Two carriages (20, 21) span the conveyor (18) and can be moved towards and away from one another. Each carriage has a beam on which fork tines are mounted. The beams can be raised and lowered. With the beams lowered the stack (12) passes on to the middle conveyor (18), which then stops. The beams are raised so the forks lift the stack enabling conveyor (46) to place a pallet (55) below the stack. The beam of carriage (21) is lowered so that side of the stack is supported by the pallet, located by stop (42). The beam of carriage (20) is lowered and the carriages are retracted. Conveyor (18) then discharges the loaded pallet.
