Abstract
Shell and tube heat exchanger, partic. for use as a steam generator in a nuclear installation, with a primary fluid, e.g. liq. Na, in the shell and a sec. fluid, e.g. water and steam. in the tubes, is claimed. Heat exchanger incorporates a metal screen in the sec. fluid outlet chamber which forms, with the inner wall of the chamber, a narrow space which is connected with the inner zone of the chamber so that a fraction of the sec. fluid flows through the narrow space. The screen limits the thermal gradients created in the wall of the chamber when the temp. of the sec. fluid changes rapidly, and prevents the occurrence of stresses exceeding the elastic limit of the material of the chamber and causing a flow in the area of the connection between the tube plate and the chamber.
