Abstract

The mine tunnel and gallery excavating machine has a cutter drum for soft and very hard stone, rotating on an axis roughly at right angles to the working face, and mounted on an arm likewise pivoting on an axis at right angles to this face. The arm in turn pivots on a second one on axis parallel to the first two. Arms lengths, and the angles through which they pivot, are such that the drum can cover the entire working face without having to move the machine sideways. The axes (2, 5, 7) of drum (1) and arm s (3, 6) are inclined to the axis (A-A) of the tunnel being excavated, and the angled included between them can be adjustable while working. The peripheral surface of the drum can comprise a cylindrical portion and cones at the ends which are a mirror image of each other.
