Abstract

Tubes for carrying a heat transfer fluid are laid in creased channels in a ductile metal sheet. The channels are deeper than the dia. of the tubes, and the upper parts of the channels are subsequently pinched in to trap the tubes and ensure good contact between the sheet and the tubes, pref. around about 300 degrees of arc. Pref. the initial channel profile is slightly divergent (wall draught angle of 2.5-5 degrees), so that prefabricated sheets may be stacked prior to fitting with tubes. Specifically panels comprise aluminium sheet carrying steel tubes set into a mastic of thermally conductive, corrosion resistant resin. The panels may be painted or plated to obtain a dark colour and sized to act simultaneously as roofing panels and solar energy traps. Avoids use of ancillary tube clamps or fittings.
