Abstract

A vehicle tipping warning device (10) monitors the vehicle position w.r.t. an artificial horizontal defined by a fluid in an on-board container and generates an alrm signal when the vehicle position deviates from the horizontal by an adjustable limit. It is designed for simple construction, high reliability and to enable adjustment of the tilt limit to suit different vehicle stability characteristics. The container is a transparent hermetically sealed cylinder mounted perpendicular to the vehicle base and partially filled with transparent viscous fluid. The fluid maximum level is monitored by use of two mutually perpendicular beams at right angles to the symmetry axis of the container and with adjustable height.
