Abstract

The plates are for attachment to panels of a car body, e.g. the bonnet and boot sections, and provide additional reinforcement to protect passengers in the event of a collision. A retaining hook (10) is attached to a support plate (12) on the car bonnet panel (11), and a reinforcing plate (14) is positioned on the car body so as to align with the support plate and retaining hook. Associated with the support plate and retaining hook is preferably a finger-like extension (15). Both the hook and extension engage with openings in the reinforcing plate (17, 16) on closing of the bonnet, and in the event of a collision would limit the rearward movement of the bonnet and prevent it from opening.
