Abstract

Gas passing through the installation contacts a curtain of sprayed liq. An assembly of venturis accelerates the gas through the liq. to improve sepn. of solid particles. One or more of the venturis can be hydraulically sealed to maintain gas speed when the gas flow through the installation decreases. The hydraulic seals are pref. achieved by arranging the lower ends of the venturis at different levels in a vertical enclosure with a controllable overflow just above each level. Alternatively the venturis are at the same level and some are sepd. by partitions enabling hydraulic sealing of these from the gas flow. By use of simple liq. level control, closure of some of the venturis can be achieved without complicated mechanical seals.
