Abstract
Prior to the analysis, at least a majority of the Mg and/or Ce atoms present in the sample are bound, to permit the catalytic action of Te. The Mg and/or Ce atmos can be bound e.g. with Te, using >=0.40 wt.% Te on the wt. of the sample; or by sulphur, selenium or oxygen, added to the liq. sample as the pure element or as mixts., alloys or chemical cpds. Binding the Mg and/or Ce atmos present in modular or vermicular cast iron allows the catalystic effect of Te to be realised in the sample. The treated samples can be analysed by emission spectrometry and/or the carbon content and carbon equiv. can be determined by accurately recorded cooling curves.
