Abstract

Mfr. of valve for IC engines or for use at high temps. in highly corrosive environments involves depositing on the valve body a plate and before welding the plate to the body subjecting the plate zone to a very high temp. so as to melt the deposited plate to produce a homogeneousation of the zone structure. Pref. the welding stage is followed by an aging phase in which the ageing comprises holding the plate zone at a temp just above that at which the valve functions but below the temp. at which the plate structure forms a solid solution. The process enables the plate to reinforce the valve body and to increase its resistance to corrosion.
