Abstract

A stabilising compsn. for halogen-contg. vinyl polymers consists essentially of: (a) antimony tris(iso-octyl ester of thioglycollic acid), (b) an acceptor of HCl and (b) an organic complexing agent (chelator). Pref. compsn. contains (by wt.): 0.1-4 pts. Sb tris(iso-octyl ester of triglycollic acid), 0.01-20 pts. of an acceptor of HCl, esp. Mg oxide, and 0.1-5 pts. of a complexing agent, esp. Na gluconate. HCl acceptor removes the HCl formed from the vinyl polymer by action of light and heat. The chelator prevents the formation of SbCl3. The labile Cl in the polymer are replaced by organo-Sb residues; the Cl migrate towards Sb and form cpds. such sa R2SbCl and SbCl3 arrow left SbCl6 3-. The stabilising effect exceeds that of hitherto known Sb cpds.
