Abstract

Removal of dissolved organic impurities from waste water streams is effected by: na) concentrating the dissolved organic impurities by adsorption on an adsorbent, pref. activated C, SiO2 and/or Al2O3 flue dust. and (b) simultaneously destroying the conc. organic impurities, by treatment with an oxidising agent, pref. O3 and/or H2O2. The process can be used for treating municipal-, hospital- and industrial waste. Process activity is high, e.G. adsorption/oxidn. treatment can reduce TNT concn. in waste water by 8%, compared with 65% by adsorption alone. Simultaneous adsorption and oxidn. is more efficient than separate adsorption and oxidn.
