Abstract

The system distributes ignition voltage pulses between at least two discharge paths, each of which is connected in series to a spark plug, and comprises two main electrodes in a closed insulating envelope. A discharge is started in them by application of a control voltage pulse to a corresponding control electrode. The spark plug (21, 22) and the discharge path (23, 24) are connected to a secondary winding (20) of an ignition coil (6). When current in its primary winding (5) is broken, voltage induced in it is used for generation of the control voltage pulse applied to the control electrode.
