Abstract

An auxiliary fitting to allow a vehicle wheel to negotiate snow or mud, consists of a cheek (2) coaxial with the wheel (3). The cheek has a number of radial slideways (4), fixed to it. Each slideway consists of a tubular body of rectangular section, fixed to the cheek by ears. The inner part of the tube is at right angles to the wheel shaft axis. There are shoes (6), one per slideway, bent inwards partially to cover the tyre tread (8). The shoe curve can be rigid with a part (9) sliding in the tube or hinged and held by a wing nut.
