Abstract

The compressed air distributor for a pneumatic drill has a two-piece plastics body (16, 17) holding an oscillating metal pastille (15). The distributor controls the movements of an alternatively displacing machine, and the two pieces form two opposed seats delineating the limits of pastile motion. The plastics material is rigid and has both shock-resistant and shock-absorbent properties. The unit is economic to fabricate and uses a relatively lightweight pastille (15). The pieces may have seats which absorb the kinetic energy of the pastille. The pastille (15) does not rebound but remains flat against the seat concerned, improving performance and reducing the compressed air consumption. Each of the seats may be fabricated in a mechanical mould, and in a single moulding operation. The mould may give thrust chambers (18-22) with intercommunicating holes (26, 27) and a chamber (7) for compressed air admission.
