Abstract

The vibration of immersed quartz crystals excited by high frequency electric supply atomises water from a holding tank. The atomised water is entrained in an air current which is distributed throughout the enclosed space. Make-up water is run into the holding tank at a rate which maintains the original water level despite loss by atomisation, evaporation etc. The humidifier pref. also comprises an entrainment air fan with tank cover and diffuser ducting, a low water level alarm, an adjustable water make-up supply and an overflow outlet from the tank. Used for humidifying the atmos. of an enclosed space, partic. storage buildings for vegetables, fruit and/or general foodstuffs. Quartz crystals can be employed for humidifying on an industrial scale. Without becoming coated with deposits of scale. This is because the level of mineral salts concn. in the water is kept down by constant makeup of fresh water.
