Abstract
Stabilised valerian extracts contain 0.5 (0.1)% water, calculated on the wt. of the extract. In an example, 160g valerian extract (0.8% water) was diluted with 1000 ml benzene then dried for 3 days over a molecular sieve, to a water content of 0.1% (by reference to valepotriates). After 5 months storage the valepotriate content was 95% of the original value. Valerian extracts are known pharmaceutical agents, e.g. sedatives. The extracts are storage stable.
