Abstract

The ends of a conveyor belt (1b) are joined by metal clips (2a, 2b). These clips are U-shaped and with rectangular cut-outs which enable the clips to be fitted together and be secured by a common pin, so that a hinge is formed. When this type of belt joint is used with a conveyor carrying material in the form of fine powder, the grains penetrate the gaps between the hinges and wear away the hinge pins. This defect can be overcome by extending the surfaces of the belt (1b) to form lips (7b) which seal on the rounded surface (4a) of the mating hinge and prevent any grains reaching the hinge pin.
