Abstract

A porous coating for the ground, partic. for sports purposes, is made of rubber, pref. butyl rubber, granules coated with polyurethane. the rubber is highly flexible, and has good adhesivity for the resin. The coating is given an anti-slip surface layer. The rubber granules are pref. of size1-4 or 2-5 mm, and can be obtd. from vehicle tyres or inner tubes. The rubber/polyurethane mixt. pref. contains 60-90, partic. 65, wt. % rubber. The anti-slip surface layer is pref. a flexible paint-like film contg. small granulated balls, such as 'Rilsan' (RTM), of dia. about 200 mu. The surface is partic. useful for sports e.g. football, hockey and other sports normally practised on grass. Coating overcomes two previous defects of polyurethane-coated rubber, viz. insufficient flexibility, and slipperiness caused by rain. It has a sufficiently long life, and is practically unaffected by atmospheric conditions.
