Abstract

In packing tubular catalysts, all with their tube axes in the direction of the gas flow and arranged in a specific pattern across the cross-section of the flow, the catalysts are packed at a density less than that which would result if the external faces of the tubes were in direct mutual contact. Used for any solid catalyst arrangement, but in particular for exhaust gas purification systems for converting nitrous oxides. Cf. previous arrangements where relatively small, elongated grains are used, the arrangement of tubes spaced apart does not suffer from the corresp. risk of clogging due to dirt and particles of soot. Nevertheless, a large area is presented to the gas flow.
