Abstract

The electric room heater has a rectangular casing (4). The front and back (8) do not extend all the way down, to leave an air inlet opening at the bottom of the heater. The top has an air outlet grill (10) in it. An electric resistance heater (12) is fixed inside the casing near the bottom. The sides (2) have secondary air openings (18) near the top. A high limit thermostat (22, 24) is placed inside the casing near each of these openings. In normal operation heated air rises through the casing by convection and draws secondary air in through the side openings. If the discharge grill is obstructed the rising hot air is diverted out through the side openings and actuates the high limit thermostats.
