Abstract

A system for cooking frozen iood by frequency radiation, uses storage shelves for the form, in a cold atmosphere, alongside a compartment (18) from which the radiation as applied. The food is housed inside metal containers (22) inside which the food is heated, each container being incorporated in the end of a tray (16) which fits onto a shelf. Each container has its open end sealed by a swinging flap (e.g. 20b) during cold storage, and cold air circulates through slots (26) at the sides. During heating, the tray is slid forwards on its shelf so that its open end holds the flap in a varied position leaving an opening sufficiently uncovered for the food to be heated by the radiation from the compartment (18) containing the heating equipment.
