Abstract

The window frame is constructed with wooden uprights (1) fixed to a plastic or spun metal sill (2). The sill has a groove (3) to collect rainwater which is removed through drain holes. The groove is blocked at each end by a T-shaped stopper (11) which locates in the groove under compression and is secured by glue, screws or welds. The web (12) of the stopper acts as a tenon and locates into a mortice (13) cut into the wooden upright. The joint is secured by cruciform pins (23) forced through the mortice and tenon. A mastic or sealing strip is placed between adjacent faces of the upright and the sill.
