Abstract

The system cuts to length sheetsr or pockets of sheets of paper, aluminum foil, plastic, etc., either rolled on to drums or folded in a zigzag pattern. As the strip is fed forward continuously, a first double lengthwise cut (5, 6) is made near its lengthwise edges (7, 8), its length being a function of the final length of the sheet or packet of sheets. The mid-point of this cut coincides with the centre line (2) separating two sheets or sets of sheets. A transverse cut (9) is then made in front of this centre line by a first cylinder with knife, and then a further transverse cut (12) after the line by a second such cylinder. The part cut out is then sucked up to leave a rectangular opening (15). A further double lengthwise cut (20, 21) is then made, ending at the opening, after which the edge strips (18, 19) thus formed are sucked up and the sheet separated by accelerating its forward speed.
