Abstract

A solar heating system has a collector unit with a row of parallel tubes (11) running from end to end, connected to header pipes (16) across each end. Each longitudinal tube (11) is oval in cross section and all the tubes are joined together in a strip, by fins each side. The header pipes (16) then fit over the ends of the pipes with side entry holes (18) in line with the ends of the tubes. The capacity of the tubes is 2 to 5 litres, pref. 3 to 4 litres per square meter of surface area. The ends of the tubes fit into recesses in the sides of the header pipes, with sealing rings (18) between. They are then retained by screws (21) which pass through lugs on the pipes and engage integral arms (13) projecting above and below the tubes.
