Abstract

In the catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons, the feed contains 1-30 wt. % of a pyrolysis oil obtd. from tyres. The tyres are pyrolysed at 350-800 degrees C. for not 2 hrs.; the liquid effluent is sepd. into an aq. phase and an organic phase, and the organic phase is distilled. The fraction distilling at 200-400 degrees C. (270-400 degrees C.) under atmos. pressure forms the pyrolysis oil. Improved yields, esp. of gasoline and liquefied gas, are obtained. Waste tyres are utilised. Pyrolysis is pref. effected over 2-5 hrs. at 400-750 degrees C. and in an inert atmos. The 2-phase liquid effluent may be sepd. by decantation. In partic. the catalytic cracking is at 430-580 degrees C.; and the feed rate, as tonnes/hour, is such that the ratio of catalyst:feed is 3-15:1.
